We Don’t Talk About Bruno!!!
I love the movie Encanto! It’s actually become one of my favorites through the last year or so. Confession: I listen to the soundtrack almost every day; as well as the soundtracks from Wicked, Aladdin, Frozen, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, The Aristocats, and The Cheetah Girls (okay I admit I do love musicals). Now back on track here.
If you notice, I coach both for habits and health. And while many of the posts are in relation to habits, I also love talking about health. And here is how the movie Encanto fits in: your social health is vital to your overall health. The people you are around affect everything about your health from the way you choose to eat, down to how your cells in your body change based off the environments you are in. If the people you are around all the time cause you to feel you have to hide who you are and love or don’t love, that is going to affect your physiology. Just consider what your ACE score may be from childhood to get an idea of this.
The movie Encanto is such a great example of what it looks like when you try to be something other than who you are. This whole family was trying to please one person, Abuela, and in doing so often hid inside themselves. But it’s really not just family we do this for. Consider how many “friends” we keep that negatively affect us. And the question you really have to a yourself is, why? Why am I keeping a toxic person in my life? If you keep someone in your life who is harmful to your health, you will see the long term effects of it.
However on the flip side when you have positive people in your life your health can be impacted in a good way. Some people are just great friends to hang out with while others keep you accountable. You may have people who are great at listening and being gentle while also having people who will give you the harsh truth when you need it. Social connections also include people in clubs, organizations, and communities which will get you out more or at least hopefully interacting more. We all need a variety of people in our lives. I recently told someone it not only takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to live.
No one is meant to do life alone; you are not an exception! Make sure you find the people good for your health and physiology.
