Trauma Stings For Years
This isn’t my typical type of post to put out. Most of what I write on here is about ways you can make active choices for a better life. Today I want to write about something that I know will hit many people. I promised myself many years ago I needed to be raw with people because people deserve authenticity. So today I’m being raw with you, and hope you feel a little less alone.
I was highly traumatized as a child. It still stings today. I am mid 30s, and it happened more than 25 years ago. I still hurt. I still feel it randomly. I still get flashbacks. My body remembers the feelings physically when I remember it mentally. I was sexually, physically, emotionally, and mentally abused. No matter what therapy I go through, it hasn’t fully left me. It doesn’t feel good some days. It doesn’t feel good some weeks. There’s many times I drink alcohol and it comes up even more - yes I know I should probably stop, but won’t until I’m truly ready.
I don’t know who needs to hear these things, but I feel certain someone does.
You can’t put a time limit on healing.
You are allowed to heal at your pace.
You do not need to feel ashamed for still struggling years later from abuse and trauma.
You deserve to heal.
You are worth healing.
You are worth saving from the pain.
You are not alone.
