Practice Makes Perfect
“Practice makes perfect” - my grandmother said this more than anything else I’ve ever heard. She was also one of the greatest cooks and bakers I’ve ever had the pleasure in life of knowing. So I think she knew what she was saying.
Habits are built through consistency, not just a time or 2. Our minds are built to do what we know, so if we have not been working out for years and then decide we are going to start it will take time and consistency to make it stick. The problem is that we like to see immediate results so when we do not we get discouraged or decide it’s way too difficult and quit.
If you’re around me very long, you come to know that I love Neuroplasticity and talk about it as much as possible when it is appropriate. If you want to see the results you are aiming for, you have to rewire your brain for the thing you are wanting to achieve. But you have to push through the days of not being motivated.
Do you think that Brett Favre or Peyton Manning had days they did not want to practice football? It is never about what you do not want to do. It is about what you chose to do instead - DISCIPLINE. Those men could have chosen to sit and rest instead of practicing; yet they chose to do the hard thing on the less motivated days.
When faced with the obstacle of not being motivated, do it anyways! That moment is vital to the success of what you’re doing! Keep practicing discipline! Each time you choose to push through the hard to do the thing you do not want to do in that moment, it does get slightly easier to choose it again. The moment when you feel like you do not want to do the hard thing, ask yourself why. Take a moment to reflect and then choose to do it anyways.
You can give every excuse in the book why you will not do something you should but ultimately you still have a choice to push fire your goals. Remember, what you choose today is the beginning to a year from now and 5 years after. Choose your hard. Stop making excuses.
