Forming a Habit
Hello!
How are you doing with your goals so far for the year? Sticking to them? Making new ones because you’ve crushed the other ones already? One of my habits in most proud of is listen to an audiobook or reading a physical book every day, even if just a page - although I do read much more! I challenged myself to read 12 books this year and so far have gotten through 7! While that is not much to some people, it’s a heck of an achievement for me!
A new habit of mine I have been working on is to walk 15 minutes every day. I made a deal with my partner that if I don’t walk, I have a consequence that is harsh to me - enough to highly motivate me. However, I made it even more of a challenge and decided I cannot walk until I have drank 3 bottles of water. Both of these things together are extremely good for me and something I am doing well on thanks to the consequence of what happens if I do not drink water and walk.
When we form habits, it has to be challenging in a way that does not feel too hard and make us want to quit, or too easy that we get bored. We also cannot do too many things all at once or we take the chance on burning out from too many focuses.
